Yes, as much as I thought and hoped it would never happen, Michael Vick has now been signed to a new NFL team– The now deplorable Philadelphia Eagles. Before I get into what he is now known for, let’s revisit his past shall we?

2004- Two men are arrested for possession and distributing marijuana. The men are picked up while driving a vehicle belonging to Michael Vick. Vick took no responsibility and blamed his friends for being untrustworthy. Well sir, who chose these friends?

October 2004- Michael Vick and friends were going thru security screening in an Atlanta airport. One of Vick’s friends (see a theme?) is caught on tape stealing the watch of a security screener when he was not looking.  The watch was eventually returned

2005- Woman claims that Michael Vick, a.k.a. Ron Mexico, intentionally and knowingly gave her an STD. She claims Vick knew about the disease, and sought treatment under the above alias.  Vick eventually settled out of court with the woman.

2006- After being booed by fans in the Georgia Dome following a loss to New Orleans, Vick gives 2 middle fingers to fans while exiting the field. He is fined $10,000 by the NFL, and also donates another $10,000 to charity.

2007- In yet another airport incident, Michael Vick is caught with a water bottle which contained a hidden compartment with what appeared to be marijuana. Vick claimed that the hidden compartment was for jewelery.

And then comes the dog-fighting allegations. After initially lying about the charges, Vick admits to the following…

*Allowing dogfights to be held on his property

*Gambling on the dogfights and organizing others to gamble

*Funding these dogfights including the dogs, kennels, cages, houses, as well as the instruments used to kill and torture the dogs

*Assisting in the training of dogs to learn to fight and creating vicious tendencies in the dogs thru torture

*Allowing the hanging of dogs who were old or failed to perform

*Allowing the drowning of dogs who were old or failed to perform

*Allowing the electrocution of dogs who were old or failed to perform

*Allowing the beating of dogs who were old or failed to perform

And this man deserves a “2nd” chance? I believe he is now in his 4th, 5th, 6th chance. Who knows at this point?

Even after all of this, while out on probation, Vick failed a required random drug test!

So you see, allowing him to re-enter the NFL is not a 2nd chance. He should have run out of chances long ago. He should be forced to the same tough life others face when they exit prison for a crime of this nature.

Michael Vick is a despicable human being, just as any person who participates in this type of activity is. Yes, I know there are plenty of people saying “Oh, he has paid his debt to society” or “He should be commended for admitting his mistakes”. Yes I know the law and yes i know people should be allowed to work when exiting prison. The problem I have is that after showing what type of evil and selfish person he is, that he will move on to making potentially millions over the rest of the football career he may still have.

What disappoints me even more are the numbers of people who rooted for him over this entire process. Those ignorant fans in Atlanta, and around the country, should be ashamed of themselves. Not only that, but the parents who raised them should be even more ashamed. People who are evil enough to commit these actions on animals, people, or anything do not deserve to have one thing made easy for them.

Do these people not feel that if he is evil enough to commit these actions, that there is not more screws loose in his sick head that could lead to even worse actions in the future? I do not feel that a person can engage in acts like this, and then suddenly be sorry and truly remorseful. This was not a 1 time incident or bad decision. This was a lengthy operation and was meticulously covered up and carried out. I do indeed hope he is truthful when he says he is sorry, but I do not believe it for a second.michael-vick-r_0
